[1.8] 14(de fandrotra : noeud coulant ; on emploie les rhizomes et tiges rampantes très solides pour faire des liens, tendre des collets, etc.) Nom du chiendent malgache : Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers.(Poaceae). 15Bonne fourragère ; rhizome employé aussi en brosserie. 16Médicinal, la décoction sert à faire des lotions contre les conjonctivites ; par la bouche, on l'administre surtout contre les cystites et dans les colites fréquentes comme séquelles de dysenterie amibienne. 17Joue un rôle important dans la symbolique malgache : symbole de longue vie ; on en incorpore un morceau, associé au sodifafana et au zozoro dans l'angle sacré de la maison, le coin Nord-Est, réservé aux ancêtres ; il protège la maison elle-même et aussi la vie de ses habitants. 18Nom souvent cité dans les proverbes malgaches ; par exemple : fandrotrarana an-tanana haolo.
